Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles 12-Piece Holiday Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 Review

Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles 12-Piece Holiday Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 Feature

  • 12-piece dinnerware set, service for 4
  • 4 each: 10-1/2 inch dinner plate; 8-inch salad plate; 3-7/8-inch mug
  • Fine earthenware construction with fluted borders and notched rims
  • Deep-pink pattern on ivory background depicts regal foliage and classic Christmas tree
  • Safe for use in the dishwasher, microwave, and freezer
Introduced in the spring of 2006, the Christmas version of Old Britain Castles makes a handsome accent to the original. Instead of depicting actual historic castles, the holiday dinnerware features an old-fashioned Christmas tree centered on the ivory background of each piece. Borders are slightly fluted and subtly notched for a decorative feel, and are covered with an elaborate floral design. Here the designs are rendered monochromatically in deep pink; a pink version with a green tree is also made by Johnson Brothers.

This 12-piece dinnerware set is perfect for entertaining during the holidays. The smaller 8-inch plate and 3-7/8-inch mug make a nice set for morning coffee with scones or afternoon tea with cookies. The 10-1/2-inch dinner-size plate also doubles as a serving dish for baked treats or a small cake. Despite the antique look of the earthenware, which is crafted in the traditional English style, Old Britain Castles Christmas pieces are today made in China and are durable enough for everyday use. Each piece can be heated in the microwave, stored in the freezer, and plunked into the dishwasher for easy cleaning. --Ann Bieri
